We had a wonderful sleep in a bed after our train trip. Then it was downstairs to have breakfast with Kelsi and Cameron.
After getting ourselves ready to go out, we went to Maligne Lake with a stop before at another lake that was very low. Here we spotted the Pika! What a cute little mammal they are!! They make a noise that sounds a bit like "eek"! They are really small, but can move very quickly over and under rocks.
While making our way to Maligne Lake, we noticed all these cars parked on the side of the road. Cameron slowed right down and we saw there was a bear on the side of the road. As he slowed right down, Grant decides to jump out with his camera! Something you are not meant to do!! We had to pull over in the end to wait for him to come back! It was just a brief glimpse of a bear here.
We then carried on to Maligne Lake where once we walked through the trees to the lake, we came across two moose! A mother and her calf! The were grazing near the trail, so were not allowed to pass them and had to stay at least 100m away from them. It was amazing how many people tried to get closer. These animals are still quite wild and especially when there is a mother and calf, they can be very dangerous. The moose look funny, as they seem to be a cross between a horse and mule/donkey! They seem to be all legs and look like they could easily become clumsy.
Once it was safe to pass the moose we carried on around the lake and then headed back. Again we came across the moose, but this time the mother was on one side of the track and the calf on the other. We were allowed to pass, but had to keep an eye on the mother, as we would be getting between her and her baby. Luckily she didn't seem to bothered, but then when we got safely to the other side, she decided she was going to join her calf! Quite a few people had to move pretty quick to get away from her!
There was an information centre, plus cafe at the end of the lake, which we went up to and sat in the sun before having to move indoors as it got too hot!
We then left Maligne Lake and headed back to Jasper. Before getting back to Jasper though, we went to Maligne Canyon. Here there was deep canyons with water flowing ever so fast through it. There were a few walks here, but I only did to the the second bridge. The drops down into the canyon were quite scary, but the water was amazing and the power.
That night Cameron and Kelsi cooked sausages and vegetables for us for dinner. We then had an early night, as the next day we are heading back to BC to Blue River Safaris to see bears.
