We sorted out our bags and took smaller ones with us on our trip to Banff, leaving our bigger bags at Kelsi and Cameron's. We left Jasper just after 9am.
As always, there just seems to be one spectacular mountain after another! We finally get on the Icefields Parkway, where we stopped at Athabasca Glacier, where we walked up a steep (and I mean steep!) pathway, and thankfully short, to the edge of the glacier. It was so COLD that I ended up getting a headache! It was amazing to see and to see people on it who were taking a tour on the glacier itself, as this really put into perspective how big the glacier was, as the people looked like ants on it!!
After getting back in the car, we ventured across the highway from the glacier to the Visitors Centre there, which was packed with people, but oh so warm!
Once back in the car, we kept travelling down the Icefields Parkway into Banff National Park. We passed Lake Louise, but did not stop, as it is a long weekend here (Labour Weekend) and it would be so busy. We have decided to do this on our way home on Wednesday.
We finally arrived in Banff in the early afternoon and drove around and around trying to find a park. There was just so many people and cars! It was unbelievable! We decided we would drive onto Canmore and grab some lunch there, which we did - at McDonald's!! We then went to the Visitors Centre there and found maps etc to help us with where we wanted to go and also the lady there pointed out good places to park in Banff. We then went to Safeways (supermarket chain over here) and got some much needed supplies! Then it was off to find our accommodation in Harvie Heights (4km north or Canmore). We found it and we are actually staying at the Banff Boundary Park. We have a lovely 2 bedroom unit on the ground floor. We unpacked and settled ourselves into our new home for the next four nights.
We had lasagna for dinner along with broccoli. We planned our day for tomorrow - to visit Banff and go up Sulphur Mountain in the gondola!
