We got a bit of a late start today and finally headed out on our bikes at around 10:30. We rode into the centre and then followed two of Rick Steves' walking tours including one through the Red Light District. Ladies of the night (and day), sex shops, strip bars, "cafes" and more...despite the heavy rain, it was all very interesting! Afterwards, we focused on the other landmarks of Amsterdam and learned some of the history of this remarkable city.
Back on our bikes, we headed south to Museumplein where the famous Rijksmuseum & Van Gogh Museum are located. It was time for a rest so we dipped our toes in the wading pool and took in the sights and sounds.
Next, it was on to Vondelpark, a beautiful park where Amsterdamers and tourists alike stroll, bike, picnic, listen to music, etc. As we headed back to our flat, we found another great park that took us almost right to our door. I had no idea that Amsterdam had so many green spaces! Along the way, we came across a big music festival that Ben would have loved.
Our diet hasn't exactly been healthy today as we had to sample some traditional Dutch treats like waffles with Nutella and fries with mayo. Good thing we also got lots of exercise!
It's now 8:00 and we're off to see a concert in the park by our flat. The fun never ends!
