Ok, so we boarded the "Love Boat" in Helsinki, which by the way was incredible. The ship was massive, and had everything on board you could imagine. We checked in to our cabins, went and had a few drinks at the bar before going to the duty free store to buy some cheap alcohol. After putting away a decent amount of this "cheap alcohol" we got ready and headed to dinner. Dinner consisted of an all you can eat buffet, which was incredible! Even more incredible, was the all you can drink nature of the dinner. Needless to say we left dinner feeling rather good!!! We then headed to the nightclub on the top deck of the boat. It wasnt the best nightclub we have been too, and the rocking of the ship wasn't making life easier. As such the night didnt reach the escalating heights we imagined it would. But nonetheless it was a great night anyway.
We arrived in Stockholm the next morning and immediately we drove around the city for some sightseeing. We started at the Stockholm Town Hall, before heading into the heart of the city. We witnessed the changing of the guards at the ol Imperial Palace, which was really cool, before heading to the Nobel Prize Museum. The Nobel Prize Museum, lots of great exhibits to see, and some really interesting stories and the like. We grabbed some lunch before jumping back on the bus, headed toward the Vassa Museum.
The Vassa was ancient Swedish Battleship that sunk on its maiden voyage after leaving the Stockholm Harbour in the 1500's. It was one of the biggest ships of its kind at the time, and remained on the harbour's floor for 366 years. In the 1920's, it was decided to raise the ship, which was incredibly done leaving it completely in tact. They restored it to some extent, now it sits in a museum with a lot of other artifacts and remnants from the ship. Sounds boring, but it was fascinating to learn how they were able to raise it in one peice without disturbing any of its initial structure (it remains 90% in tact from the day it was built).
We then checked into our hotel and had dinner for the last time with the group. The tour actually continued on to Norway and Denmark for another 7-8 days but unfortunately we were leaving the tour at Stockholm. It was an incredible tour, so much so that Ryan decided to stay on and complete the tour and make his own way back to Perth.
Anyway, we had one last night out with our new friends, taking in some local beers at a beer garden. It wasn't a massive night, but it was nice to spend some quality time with these people before we left them the next day.The next day we said goodbye to everybody at breakfast before making our way to Stockholm airport for our long flight to Tokyo.
