Was quite a relief to finally get to Chile after our long spell in the beautiful, but very basic Bolivia.
As we crossed the border the signs were good as the dirt track road suddenly turned into tarmac - very metaphoric. The road was smooth, had signs and even had crash barriers. We were both close to tears.
San Pedro was just a half hour's drive from the border and is a lovely, small tourist town, but with lots of character so was a great place to settle into Chile and spend a few relaxing days.
Really wanted to do some star gazing as the nearby desert sounded like the perfect place to finally do it, but we'd timed our stay badly as it coincided with a full moon so the tour was postponed due to the accompanying light pollution - arse.
We made do with a few wanders round the town square and lazy days in the hostel garden chilling out.
One nice discovery here was the Chilean equivalent of Irn Bru, the appetisingly named 'Pap' which thankfully tasted nicer than it sounded. Had, had enough pap over the last few weeks anyway.
