Paul and Sarah's Travels
26th and 27th February - Yosemite National Park
We stayed at a place called 'Yosemite Bug', a small 'resort' that's about a 40 minute drive from Yosemite Valley. We got there in the pitch black on the first night after being dropped off by our guide Dave / 'Shaggy'. Trekked up a few steps to our 'tent cabin' to find that not only was it the size of a garden shed, but LITERALLY a garden shed. It was also covered in litter, freezing cold and had dirty bed linen - a great start.
Made the mistake of whacking the heater on full overnight and woke up approaching spontaneous combustion, but at least we didn't freeze to death on the upside.
Headed into the park with Dave the next day and drove around to a few key spots to great photos of El Capitan, The 3 Brothers and Half Dome mountains. Also did a couple of long walks in the snow (thought we'd seen the last of the white stuff in Canada) and saw a few waterfalls. The whole place was amazingly beautiful and surprisingly different to the snow and scenery we'd seen in Canada. Saw some sort of white 'snow weasel' poking his head out at one point - little b***** did one before we could take his photo.
Earlier in the morning we saw a big herd of deer cross a road in front of us which distracted a driver into nearly crashing head-on with a park ranger's car. Bloke got pulled over and ranger went mental - amusing.
Also popped into the Ansel Adams photography gallery for a look around - one of the framed photos was going for $45,000 which was pretty steep.
Another very early start the next morning and we were off to the Sequoia Woods to do some show-shoeing. The trees were amazing, even the dead fallen ones which hadn't broken down for hundreds of years.
Went to the native Indian museum on the way back to 'The Bug' before then heading back to San Fran to catch the cursed Greyhound again down to Santa Cruz on our way to San Diego.
