Paul & Linda's International Adventures
Hello again,
This postcard is hitting your monitors direct from the means streets of Brizzy, where Paul and Linda are currently engaged in the thrilling activity of job seeking! It looks like Paul will end up working in a call center for a mobile network (yes - he will be one of those irritating guys who call you up when you are trying to eat your dinner) and Linda is looking at doing some office or waitressing work.
We really like Brisbane - it's a lively, buzzing city, but you can still get around everywhere on foot and there are plenty of picturesque open spaces. There is also a lot going on culturally - loads of galleries, music venues, theatres etc. Just a shame that we can't actually afford to go to any of them until we are employed! It'll be a cool place for us to settle for a few weeks.
Home at the moment is a backpackers place very near to the bridge in the picture for this postcard. It's a pretty cool place with really friendly people and a crazy landlord who loves running around screaming in his underpants at 2am in the morning! We had a pretty messy BBQ with our housemates yesterday which resulted in the two of us vowing never to drink carton wine again......I wonder how long we will keep our promise? It's just so blimmin' cheap!
Since we last posted a message we have been on a self drive 4x4 tour of Fraser Island - A massive sand island on the East coast. It was a truly amazing place and probably the highlight of Australia so far. As the island is a national park there is virtually no development there and once you manage to dodge the 2000 other backpackers doing the same tour, you really feel as if you have stepped back in time.
We were in a group of 9 with some really good people who we quickly bonded with other the tasks of setting up camp and cooking etc.. We had a bit of a close call one evening when we got bogged in the sand for 2 hours, and with the tide coming in fast, no amount of digging was going to get us out! In the end some friendly Aussies came to our rescue and we were able to make it to our campsite for a well deserved bevvie! Check out the photo's page for some pics of Fraser Island and some ultra cute possums alongside the many other new photographical delights on display!
Hope everyone is healthy and happy.
Lots of love,
Linda & Paul
