Paul & Linda's International Adventures
Hello!
We\'ve been very busy bunnies since we last wrote.
We left Adelaide last week and we\'re very sad to say goodbye to all of the lovely people we met there there. We definately went out on a high though: A couple of nights before we left, we went along to a gig of our friends in the Josh Spier Band, who pulled a massive suprise on Paul by learning one of his bands songs and calling him up on stage halfway through the set to sing it - He pulled off a wicked performance, in spite of not knowing to do with his guitar free hands! We also had a bit of a going away feast and were sent on our merry way laden with lots of our favourite Aussie sweets - what more could we ask for!
Since we arrived in NZ last week, we\'ve haven\'t stopped. After flying into Christchurch in the South Island we picked up a campervan and made our way up to Hanmer Springs where we did some mountain biking in the forest. We got a bit lost and Paul led us onto a bit of a full on track which zig-zagged down the side of a ravine. Probably ill advised seeing as I don\'t really even know how to the change the gears! Needless to say, I fell off in spectacular style, nearly tumbing to my death in the valley below, all of which Paul was too busy flying along saying \"weeeeeeeeeeeeeee\' to notice! We recovered from the trauma in the nearby thermal springs. It was a wonderful thing to rest our saddle-weary butts in the pools which are pumped full of scalding hot, yet stinky water from the natural thermal springs. The open air springs are surrounded by the snow capped mountains which make for a stunning, if somewhat chilly, backdrop.
Next up, we headed to Kaikoura in the North where we headed out for a bit of trek along the peninsular, where we were lucky enough to get up close to a colony of fur seals. The next day we braved the freezing cold to swim with a pod of 200 dusky dolphins. Although we were near hypothermia and looked like complete idiots, singing through our snorkels to attract the dolphins, when we did get to swim with them, it was amazing. They love it when you swim in circles and at one stage I had 3 of them copying my funky moves!
Yesterday, after some epic driving on Paul\'s part, we arrived in Franz Joseph were we took a hike up onto the glacier. It\'s a very beautiful, other worldy place. We found it a touch scary though, picking our way along narrow paths in the ice next to crevasses that dropped straight down for up to 80m!
Today we arrived in the very beautful town of lake wanaka where we are planing to do some kayaking tomorrow, then off to Queenstown to make ourselves poor and scared with some extreme sports activity.
Gotta go now.
Hope all are well.
Lots of love,
Linda & Paul
