Thursday December 4th - Day 64 and I woke up with some serious dry mouth due to last nights drinking. A cold shower and bowl of Corn Flakes later and I felt ok. Burns got up in a bit of a state and put in the wrong pair of contacts and couldn't work out what he was doing, well funny. We headed out to a cafe down the road to do some research on the net about booking a car to drive down the great ocean road, and also booking flights and car rental for Tasmania. We spent a good 3-4 hours here on the net and had some food and drink. I had the biggest bowl of fried rice ever for $6. It was insane.Burns was still recovering from last night and had a serious bout of the beer sweats. The fact that it was a really hot day didn't help this. We tried to walk to the beach and let the girls navigate. After 10 minutes we asked someone which way the beach was. He said the way we had just come from. This lead to us guys directing and we decided to go to the City centre as we were closer. We got a tram, but spent about 15 mins trying to work out how to buy a ticket. They are overly complicated. We arrived in the heart of Melbourne; Federation square where we found out the Homeless World Cup 2008 was taking place. We had to watch a match (it was free entry. We saw Hungary play Hong Kong in a close encounter with Hungary winning in the last few minutes 8-6. It was 4 a side rolling subs.It seemed weird seeing homeless people in fancy kits and some wearing orange and green boots. We also saw Kim Milton Nielsen (the ref who sent off Beckham in 1998) there. We found an information centre where me and Burns had an in-depth discussion with a stubborn Aussie about how football is good, though he thought it was boring and how Aussie rules was awesome. He didn't seem impressed when I said it just involved bouncing a ball and wrestling people. We walked down by the river Yarra for a bit then got a tram back to Punt on Pint. Had an awesome Chicken burger for the cheap dinner, and then me Helen and Burns had a debate on gambling and what was classed as addiction or not. They then suggested my next birthday we do Ascot and THEN a casino! We headed for bed and had an early night as we were changing hostels the next day.
Day 65 and we were all up by 9 having free breakfast as we had to check out by 10. Helen informed us she got no sleep as she had a 'Window War' with an evil girl in their dorm. Helen was cold so she shut the window, minutes later the other girl would open it. Apparently this continued for a while... We checked out and headed for Flinders street which is in the heart of the city. We checked into Flinders Street Hostel. As we checked in, the girl who was working there was so dim and stupid she couldn't work the computer. She kept saying in her 'Its not gonna work' in her brummie accent. She was useless. We eventually got it sorted and found our dorm on the 8th floor, a massive 12 bed dorm. Biggest room yet, so big, Helen and Coops were trying to have races in it. We then walked to the sports district where me and Burns did a tour of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Awesome stadium, capacity 100,000 or so including standing room. Only problem was our guide was a forgetful old man. Afterwards we met up with the others would had been playing frisbee outside. We got the shirts off as it was the first time we were allowed to have shirts off in public. Luke soon lost the map in the wind as it blew a few hundred yards away. We walked back through the city to the Market where we bought some potatoes for some dinner we would cook ourselves (baked potato and beans). We went to the Joint bar, which is part of the hostel, for dinner where we had Fish N Chips for $5. We weren't sure if it was a Gay bar or not but there was definitely an area for the Lesbians as they had taken over the pool tables. We had a few beers here as well as some interesting debates! Coops headed to bed as she had a headache and soon after me and Helen went up leaving Luke and Burns playing High Card Chug. When me and Helen went to bed Coops was asleep but there was no sign of Luke or Burns. According to the girls the lads came into the room about 2-3am pretty wasted and shouting. Burns pushed Luke over and left again as they had more beers! Apparently it was hilarious but I slept through it.
Day 66 was Saturday and we woke late, about 11am. Luke and Burns looked out for the count. Once we had woken them up and got ready we headed out to the market. It was packed, lots of Aussie accents shouting 'Bargains' at you. We bought a mini football to use in Aus as we would be outdoors lots. Coops was on the lookout for a jumper believe it or not as she keeps complaining about being cold! We headed back to the hostel, and on the way booked ourselves into the Ice Bar for that evening. When back at the hostel we cooked our potatoes from the previous day and had a mammoth dinner of beans, baked potato and bread. It was the best value for money meal so far as we cooked it ourselves. The kitchen in the hostel we are staying is literally a walk in room. Its about the size of my lounge at home, so the couple of hundred people staying the hostel have packed it out with all their food and drink. We relaxed in the room before heading out which included playing football and having penalty shootouts in the dorm. The ball was going everywhere and nearly went out the window a few times. After dinner we headed out to the Ice bar. We got there all wearing trousers and t-shirts, but as we paid we were given Ugg Boots, Jackets and gloves to wear as it would be -10 degrees in the bar. We were allowed 30 mins as much longer would be unsafe. Our entry included a free cocktail and a free shot. Me and Luke went for Hyperthermia's, Coops and Helen had Polar Bears while Burns had an Icy Colada. They were all really really sweet but nice. All the furniture was ice and it was so cold! Helen's camera stopped working which we think was cause of the cold! We were so cold we resorted to trying to dance to the music to keep warm. The dancing was shocking. We each had a shot to finish our 30 minutes which warmed us up a treat. I had The Frozen Mexican which was a shot of Tequila. Afterwards we went up to the Ski Lodge bar upstairs where thankfully it was normal temperature. We soon realised there were screens in the bar showing the ice bar and realised our awful dancing would have been there for all to see! Each group that followed us realised the same thing. We had a beer and then headed back to the hostel. I was up till 2am doing photos on the internet while the others where in the room. Luke and Burns played Head tennis with the football for about 2 hours and managed a highest total of 12 between them...
Day 67 and we were quite excited as today was our tour of the Neighbours set. We left the hostel mid morning and walked to the pick up point on Flinders street. We checked in and as we were about to bored the bus we saw Connor (the Irish guy who mysteriously left) talking to some other tour people. We were invited to talk, get autographs and get photos with him. He was a lot bigger in person, maybe he lost his way when he left the show. He was a good laugh and was pretty honest cause as he wasn't employed by Neighbours could be honest about what he thought! He was pleased to find out I was called Patrick. We all got a signed card and a photo with him. We then got on the bus and drove about 30 mins to 'Erinsbourgh'. On the way our guide Phil put on a DVD of the Scott and Charlene Wedding episode. It was rubbish, seriously, the quality of the show back then was so bad. I would never have watched it if it was like that now. We first drove past the school, then into the studios where we saw Lassiters, Charlies Bar, Greasemonkeys, and Harold's Store. It looked really small compared to what it looks like in real life. We got a few god photos of us trying to walk into the sets and walking over Lassiters bridge. We then drove to Pin Oak Court, which we all know as Ramsay street.Apparently the residents get paid $50,000 a year to have their house exteriors filmed 2 days a week! Helen was in her element here, she's a big neighbours fan, and has been watching it since she was like 10! She's been unlucky cause now it is on channel 5 she cant watch it as Seaford, where she lives cannot get channel 5! We all got photos of the houses and the Ramsay street sign. On the way home we watched the Millennium episode where 'chell' burns down the Scullys house (I could relate to this one as I knew who the characters were!).Once back at the hostel we packed our bags as we were going to be driving down the Great Ocean Road for the next few days in a rented car. The girls and Luke cooked us Spag Bol with Bread for dinner which was awesome. Only problem was the hobs were so crap it took about an hour from start to finish. We all then headed to the room where we crashed for the night while Luke tried to keep us awake with some horrific Would you Rather's.
