Day 220 and I was feeling the effects of Tribal Friday when I woke up. I had to go the toilet and had an awful beer taste in my mouth still so I went back to bed and stayed there till about midday. During this time we all said bye to Dave and Jamie as they were heading to LA. When I did get up and shower, it was lunchtime and it was quiche and rice with pasta and the worst meal we have had so far. After lunch as I was going to the beach I found out that Barca had beaten Chelsea in the Champions League last week and also that Man Utd trounced Arsenal 3-1 which Burns wasn't to pleased about. The sun was out after lunch so it was time to top up the tan. When the sun was behind one of the many clouds that seemed to be attracted to Robinson Crusoe, I read my book in a hammock. Burns also told me another Coopism, when at one point during the afternoon Laura had accidently drowned a wasp in her drink or something like that, so she tried to resuscitate it with a straw. At 6ish the night cruise came and I along with Matt were asked to dress in Grass Skirts to welcome them and sit in the Kava ceremony. Burns and Luke thought this was quite funny, until they were asked to do the same. The 4 of us sat through the ceremony and my legs hurt so much after 20 minutes of cross legged sitting. Dinner was a roast and we all had loads and after dinner instead of watching the start of the show we sat on the deck and chatted with the others. We soon got told off for being to loud so went to watch the show instead. After the invaders left we had some drinks and sat around for a few hours before playing charades by the bonfire. Our friend Lucy was coming up with some awful suggestions which nobody seemed to be able to get.
Day 221 and Luke, Helen, Laura and I got up early to get ready to go to a local church service which we had been told to visit. We also found out it was Mothers Day so it would hopefully be good. Burns had the sense to stay in bed all morning. The girls were asked to wear sarongs or long skirts as a sign of respect. We got the boat about 9ish and then waited 30 mins before getting a bus to the church. The weather was awesome and it was really hot so we knew Burns would be out on the beach sweating away. The village we went to was tiny and the church was small and cosy. There were loads of young kids in the church who randomly burst into song. The service was conducted by about 10 Fijian women who took turns reading (in Fijian) and singing songs with the other church goers. For the whole hour we basically stood or sat in silence as we didn't understand what was going on. After an hour or so the service ended and we got the bus back to the jetty. There we saw some of our friends leaving the island and we got the boat back to the island with some new arrivals. Some of them knew friends of us and we instantly got to know Charlie and Kat from England. Lunch was a feast of Pasta, Chicken and Fish. In the afternoon we all hit the beach to catch some rays and it was Roasting. I had a routine of listening to about 3-4 songs, then going to the pool, jumping in to cool off, then heading back to the beach for another 3-4 songs. Dinner was Roast Ham with mash potato which was great. Helen loved it so much she went back for thirds! but in the end this was probably a bad idea as she felt pretty full and quite ill afterwards. After dinner we went old school and played forty-forty. We had been discussing playing it for a few nights but never got round to it until tonight. Helen was in the wars and twice got whacked in the head when running for the post. After this action packed game, I spent the evening in the hammocks reading and had an early night.
Day 222 and I was up early again as the 5 of us plus Lucy had decided to do the island hopping tour. Today was also the first morning which I had been up early enough to see what was offered for breakfast. After some pancakes and tea, we all got our bags ready and we left Robinson Crusoe by 930. As we left we also goodbye to Matt and Liz who we had known for about 5 days on the island. We had a small speedboat for the 6 of us and our Captain introduced himself as Pax, but we would later find out he was actually called Ben. As we sped around the coast of the mainland we could see that the clouds were all over RCI but no the other islands further north. We could see the mammoth surf crashing on the reef out in the distance and we passed 2 small islands which are only for surfers, who can stay 7 days at a time. The surf here is very rough and competitions are held there. Our first stop was on Castaway Island, which is where Tom Hanks stayed when he filmed Castaway. The islands were the film was shot were in the distance. We had 30 mins here and the heat was intense so we lay on the beach. Burns and I were sweating within minutes so we jumped in the resorts fancy pool to cool off. As we left the island Luke dropped his hat, which has been used as a snot rag from time to time, into the sea so we had to stop and retrieve it from the sea. Our second stop was Walu beach which was almost deserted and we spent 25 mins lying around the pool soaking up the cloudless skies. We then headed for Musket Cove Island where we had lunch, Pizza. We walked around the massive beach and lay there for ages. We got picked up from Plantation Island which we had walked to at 3pm and then we headed out to the snorkeling reef. The water was only waist deep and amazingly clear. As soon as you put your head under the water there were fish everywhere. It was an amazing sight and defo the best snorkeling I have done. We left at 345 and headed back to RCI. The journey back was slow and choppy. The wind was so strong I couldn't look straight and had to turn my back on the wind. It took us about 90 minutes to get back and we were relieved to see dry land. When back we realised how burnt Luke had got cause he foolishly put no cream on all day! Once back we chilled out in the hammocks and then played games before going to bed at normal time as we were all shattered.
Day 223 and I was up at a decent hour because the sun was out. The girls had gone off to make coconut bracelets, again, so I hit the beach and slapped on the sun cream. The problem with doing this is that it makes me sweat even more so I had to cool off in the pool every 10 minutes it seemed. I didn't really do anything else all morning apart from sit in the shade before lunch. I had bucket loads of rice for lunch as I was starving and Luke had the most amount of potatoes on one plate I have ever seen. The afternoon was similar to the morning as I either was sitting in the sun, or the shade reading. Helen and I had moved from the Dorm into a private Bure which was a little hut with a double bed in. I spent an hour sorting some photos on the laptop and catching up on my blog which was now about a week behind. Before dinner we were sitting round the bonfire and I got chatting to this old Fijian guy called Moi who was really good at the guitar and I asked him if he knew Wonderwall. He said no, but asked to listen to it so he could learn it. So after dinner, Spag Bol, I leant him my ipod and let him listen to it so he could play it later. By doing this I luckily missed out on the devilsh spinning game and was able to watch everyone else make fools of themselves. After this I joined in and played Shark Attack which me and Charlie won. Our reward for getting sweaty and covered in sand was a free beer for me and Rum for Charlie which we both had to skull. We both had to shower though as we were so uncomfortable with sand and sweat all over us. After a few drinks and some cards I headed to be about 12ish.
