Sunday Feb 3rd 2002 - Prague Castle & Old Town
Checked out Holesovice train station after our hotel breakfast. Then we took Tram 22 to Prague Castle. We strolled the grounds and saw Franz Kafka's wee little work place and giggled at the changing of the guard and all it's pomp. Outside there were nice views of the city with all it's spires (with the confused man refusing to take our picture). Postcards in hand we found a bagel place for our 12.15pm lunch in U Malcho Grena. Picking up our good luck by touching the statue on Charles Bridge we head up the tower for views on all sides. After this we strolled through Prague's markets near the old town. Here we bought a painted snail shell and window crystals. At 3pm, along with the hordes, we watched the Astronomical Clock doing it's stuff. A look around the crowd revealed all the smiling faces. We walked through the Tyn Church, through the jazz shop and read and wrote for a while on the park bench in the Old Town Square (with coffee in hand). To finish our spending spree, Juls helped me choose a very adventorous blue hat and two stunning spiral notebooks (about €1.20 in total). Back at the hotel at about 6pm, where in our freebie 15mins, we emailed our safe status back to Anna & Lisa and found out exactly what we queued up for on Charles Bridge. Dinner at about 8pm at Mama Lucys beside Caffreys Pub. Food and wine were very good as were the plate firing antics of the lone waitress. To round off a lovely and relaxed day we had a beer at Chatheau Rouge behind the Tyn Church (quite busy, younger crowd) before our last walk home.
