We had a slow moving morning, but were happy to see another sunny day. Whether you believe in global warming or not, we have had spectacular weather the entire trip. Warm (in the 60-70's) and sunny, pretty much every day…feels more like an early fall day than almost December.
It was time to go in search of breakfast, as we were no longer treated to Albert’s breakfast treats. The hotel did have a breakfast buffet, but I am not a huge breakfast person, so to pay for a buffet is a total waste of money. We found a small bakery with all types of pastries, none of which were a healthy start to the day, which Ken was not entirely pleased with. My theory is, we can go back to oatmeal when we get home.
After enjoying our pastries, we took a wander through Old Town and found a Starbucks, where Ken felt better about having some yogurt and muesli, along with our very American Americano coffees. At this point, we had totally taxed ourselves and decided it was time to go back to the room and get some reading in…now you know we are definitely on vacation.
We finally got motivated and went in search of renting some bikes. After taking a few wrong turns, we found the Tourist Info office, where they advised that the bike rentals were done for the season, as no one expected it to be 70 degrees! So, we got a few directions and decided to do a walk along the river, which was relaxing and had beautiful views of the surrounding mountains.
On the way back to town, we found some trails that led to the top of the mountain which we pass via a tunnel to get from our hotel to Old Town. It was quite a climb, but at the top we had could see both sides, from the Alps to Salzburg right below us. Right before we headed down, we saw a very large building at the very top and went to investigate. It was the Modern Museum of Art, which had for those who didn’t want the hike, elevators down to the town. It was time for a break, so we had a beverage in the museum bar and enjoyed the views.
Hiking down was quick and we were back to the hotel in no time, where we relaxed until meeting Chris and Paige for dinner. She had chosen a restaurant close to her apartment, which meant walking down the same path along the river that we had taken earlier. The restaurant was like a pub, with burgers, local beers and sausages and it was great to see them both. Since it was a bit of a hike back to town and it was getting late, Paige and Chris showed us the bus stop and which bus to take, which got us back to town quickly. Walking back to the hotel, it was odd to see the Christmas Markets, which are usually bustling, now quiet and closed. However, with the lights on the castles and churches and it being peaceful, it was a nice time to enjoy the beautiful evening.
