15th June
Once again I am on the move. My 5 weeks in OZ has flown by. I have been to so many places and met some real nice people. Melbourne is a lovely city with a mixture of old and new buildings, wide streets and lots of coffee shops.
One of the highlights was our drive along The Great Ocean Road . We did this over two days. The first day we took the inland road to Port Fairy. We stayed overnight in a little cottage. As we arrived the heavens opened and the rain didn't stop. That night we had takeaway, a bottle of wine each and a DVD. Next morning the sun came out and the rain had stopped. We had a walk along the jetty to look at the boats. Our drive will take us along the Ocean Road which is spectacular. Our first stop was Warrnambool to see if we could see a whale or two. As we travel along The Great Ocean Road we stopped to look at the rock formations such as London Bridge and Loch Ard Gorge, which was a massive arch. I say 'was' as I think it was the 10th June the arch bit fell into the sea, leaving two rock pillers standing 25m high. They are now thinking of a new name for it. Eventully we get to the Twelve Aposles. The Twelve Aposles are huge rock formations standing in the ocean. There are not twelve now as a couple have collapsed into the ocean. Still a spectacular sight.
Another of my day trips was to Hanging Rock. There was a film called Picnic At Hanging Rock. It's about a school picnic and some of the girls go missing. On our way there we stop at some wonderful gardens. Once again I take far too many pics. The countryside around Melbourne is absolutely beautiful.
As I said at the beginning my time here has come to an end and its time to say goodbye to my friends which was very sad.
My flight from Melbourne had been changed from 10.55 am to 6.00am. I only found out when I tried to check in online the day before. At 3.00am I am on my way to the airport.
New Zealand here I come.
