We had, and I quote, "the Great All American Breakfast" . It reminded me of Chuck West's great skillet breakfast he used to make for us. We met the wife of the owner and she and her husband live within a couple of blocks of Jimmy's office in Punta Gorda. What a small world! We then played a WILD game of ping pong. The ball was everywhere. One time the ball even hit the air conditioning vent in the 15 foot high ceiling. We had quite a few laughs over our inadequacies. To finish the morning's activities, we played a game of family trivia and tied for first. We didn't know Babe Ruth's real first name. We hated to leave this nice place, but time is running out to get to Ocean City, NJ. So back on the road again, haven't planned the destination for sure, we will see what develops.
We looked at MapQuest and see that we have ~810 miles to go in these next 3 days. We're going to split it into 270 miles per day shifts. That should put us in the area of Fremont, IN. On the road again!
The drive today was VERY uneventful (thank God!) and fairly boring. We found a campground in Angola, IN that said they had a cabin available. I was craving a private bath again! We arrived to find a very dirty, very hot and nasty mobile home/cabin. We said, "Thanks, but no thanks!" The did have a campsite available, even though it was July 4th. Someone had left early. We drove to the site and panicked at backing in to such a tight spot by the pond. A young man at a neighboring site volunteered to hop in and park it for us. He turned it on a dime and we quickly popped-up and put the door down to block out the mosquitoes.
Jimmy built a fire, the kids and Paige fished unsuccessfully with marshmallows as bait, and then the kids ate S'mores. I typed the blog!
As the band was playing for all it was worth, we all showered tonight and are settling in to the new time change (it is 12:03 a.m. and we're wide awake.) One thing we are enjoying is not having to worry about bears anymore! We can actually leave our food and cooler in or around our trailer. Less things to pack up before "Lights out!"
