Hello all! Although the picture is of a temple we visited in Kyoto, we've since moved on to Hiroshima where this is being written from...
Kyoto had a slightly weird feel to it as it was pretty rough in parts but had stunning 'points of interest' which is why its regarded as the culture capital of Japan. We met some cool people in our hostel and we've got ourselves accomodation round some guys house in San Francisco for when we get there which will be cool! Our stay in Kyoto has definately been our most social stop yet!
So after spending 3 nights in Kyoto we arrived in Hirsohima earlier today and went straight to the Peace Park and Memorial Museum... It was a pretty strange experience and both of us found it very moving and a test for the emotions because some of the exhibits are really hard-hitting which you can never be totally prepared for! The 'A-Bomb Dome' is a really impressive sight and its diffcult to fully appreciate that this was one of the only buildings left standing near the centre of the blast from the bomb within a 2 kilometre radius. We won't go into anymore detail than this because it wouldn't make for the most enjoyable reading but its been one of the most worthy stops we've made in Japan!
Next on the list is a small island in the Inland Sea called MiyaJima where we'll be visiting a celebrated temple where the Torii gate sits out in the sea and you can be sure i'll be taking a few pictures of that to show you all! The island is also home to loads of tame deer so we'll be rubbing shoulders with Bambi's friends whilst keeping our distance from the wild monkeys because if you make eye contact they're liable to attack! Crazy!
We'll write again from either Osaka or when we make it to Thailand to round up our experiences in Japan. As you can probably tell as we keep saying it, we're having a great time here and japan is definately an amazing pplace for any of you who may be contemplating a visit!
Love to all! x
