Over the Hills and Far Away
Thailand was memorable for many reasons, but chief among them were the people we met and friends we made. All of them so giving and so full of life. Here's the credits of some of our new Thai friends:
- Andy and his family - for showing us a great time after having not seen him in over ten years. We dived right into local Thai life on our first day in Bangkok and got together for a great dinner filled with memorable dancing.
- The building management saff at the Watermark Apartments in Bangkok - I will NEVER forget the regular salutes I received from you when arriving and departing the apartment daily.
- The Luos - a lovely family from Xi'an who we met at the AsiaTique one evening in Bangkok. We spoke with them for awhile about where they are from in China. They have even invited us to get together with them when we go there in a few weeks.
- Fruit in a Bag Vendors - I salute all of you throughout Thailand. Celeste and I will forever be thinking of your pineapple.
- Mr. Damrong - For being so wrong and taking us to the wrong place on our way home.
- Monkey Man Cab Driver - I can hear your cackle and giggle as you pull out the stands of hair on my arm.
- Yindee - The wonderful owner of the Varinda Garden Resort. Not only did she make our visit lovely, she became our friend.
- Chen - Our waiter at the Varinda who spoke to us regularly about music, Burma, and Buddhism.
- Mai - Our waitress at the Varinda who was so gentle and sweet in her ways.
- Ken, Tuta and Cidam - The great dogs at the Varinda who made us really miss our own dogs, but gave us a great substitute to ease our sadness.
- Laundry Ladies - God bless $3 laundry days and the women who make it possible.
- Lady Boys - The plethora of boys dressed as ladies wandering around Thailand.
- Our Massage Lady - She gave Amy and I multiple massages and I don't think I'll ever have another as good. Certainly not at a Massage Envy.
- Tom - the skipper of the Naga from Holland who took such great care of us on our island hopping trip.
- Bangkok Airways - I was dancing to this song whenever it came on during our flights http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhvDnKEAnXQ
- Adisak - The owner of the BanBooLoo. A smart, caring and genuine man. Treated us like family when staying at his guest house.
- Orn - Woman who runs the day-to-day at the BaanBooLoo. Did a delicious cooking class with her as well. Had a great son and puppy.
- Tuk Tuk Drivers - Especially one in Chiang Mai who asked us if we liked Obama and we said, we stand behind our President, but he might be from Burma. The driver said, "yes, I know, I'm his brother!"
- Woody - Owner of a dozen elephants, farmer, and muy thai champion with over 250 fights. If I was a Buddhist I would hope to come back as him someday in another life.
- Chumpol Taksapornchai - Owner of Matoom Art Space (http://matoomartspace.weebly.com/artist.html) who we met at a night market. We bought a painting from him called "Family". We went to his gallery the next morning and got to meet his lovely family as well.
- Tom - Drove us to and from our day with the elephants. Coming back to our hotel he had on the Doors "Greatest Hits" in mono and we both sung all the songs together right up to "The End."
- Hari Krishnas - Both amused and intrigued Amy while annoying me.
- 007 - Our tour guide at Wat Pho, the reclining Buddha.
- Photo Opp People - So many people wanted to take pictures with Celeste and Nina.
The G4s salute you all!
