Today is good old Valentine's day. Yes they even have that holiday here in Korea. In Korea though, because of a translation error back in the 60's, only women give chocolate to men for V-day. Men just recieve gifts. All day long I had kids asking for chocolate becuase I am a woman. All the American adds would never work hear for sure. I had gifts from kids coming all day. I'll be honest, I was sick of chocolate after the thrid period. Now if it was good rich dark chocolate I'd be set for awhile. But alas, it is the cheap milk chocolate that leaves an aftertaste of wax in your mouth. I'll end up doing something with it probably baking or in popcorn.
But don't think that the men get off the hook just because of a little translation error! Because of V-day being the sadie hawkins version from the states the Koreans made a holiday called White Day where all the men give women, not chocolate, CANDY! Much more of a variety if you ask me. Apparently its a much bigger holiday than V-day according to my co-workers. This makes sense considering women here are very materialistic. Thinking about it I believe all women tend to be materislistic unless they have a proper focus of spiritual truths. This White day happens roughly a month after V-day and I think its determined by the big candy companies. This year it is March 14th. I was told by a fellow Korean co-worker that this takes place in March because there are no other big Korean holiday in March besides the Independence from Japan, but she didn't seem to care to much about that one at all.
Well that is all from me today. I hope you enjoyed our cultural lesson of the day. Hope all is well for you and if you happen to come across any Dove's dark chocolate on sale after today please be gracious and send some to me. I do miss my dark chocolate. :)
