We were onlyto be staying in Puno for the night before our next bus journey to Arequipa. On first appearances it was a good hing that we were only staying the one night, the place looked likea war zone, rocks in the streets, shady looking characters everywhere.
Amazng what first opinions can be formed of a place when arriving at night. Once again under the posiive light of day the place didnt look too bad. We enjoyed a pleasant meal that night and also booked in to go and see las flotillas (floating islands) the following day.
An early rise & breakfast and then we were off on a boat trip to see the original floating islands of south america, where people still lived on islands made of compacted reeds. It was an interesting day but I think we left wondering whether these people actually still live on the islands or whether this was more of a modern day tourist attraction.
