Happy Anniversary Kevin and Keely! Today was a big day - not only did we spend all day with the happy couple, we got to go on the favorite hike of the trip so far!
This morning we got an early breakfast at the Stavanger B&B and took the ferry to Tau - about a 40 minute ride.We then navigated a winding one-way road to the Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) trailhead. We hit the trail in mid-morning and started the steep climb up into the mountains. The trail was good, but lots of scrambling over boulders and rocks on the way up - hard work but definitely worth it!
We got to Pulpit Rock, which is a huge outcropping with sheer cliffs all the way down to the fjord a few thousand feet below. Dad (always the daredevil) wanted to sit with his legs dangling off the edge of the cliff*, but we weren't quite brave enough to join him. We had a nice Norwegian lunch of lefse, cheese, crackers, trail mix and some fruit - delicious. And of course, we took lots of pictures - for Kevin and Keely, it was like the wedding photographer all over again. What a way to celebrate an Anniversary!
The trip down was tricky, but we successfully navigated the steep path of stones and boulders back to the trailhead. Kevin got us back to the ferry just as the doors were about the close, and we took the short trip (on a very full ferry) back to Stavanger.
We ditched Kevin and Keely for dinner (even though they definitely wanted to hang out with us some more), but all met back at the B&B for some waffles before bed. Exhausted but very happy, and heading to Bergen tomorrow!

*OK, I made this up. Dad never got closer than 15 feet to the edge.
