What Is Happening??
I had been looking forward to getting to Ireland for a long time, just to see if they live up to the stereotypical Irish stupidness you expect when someone begins 'There was an irishman, an englishman and a Scotsman'. Arriving in Belfast we were taken back by the way that most of the city still looks ready for war, the police station baracaded in along with all the cop cars looking like a mad max film. Lots of buildings still have pictures and murals dedicated to the fighting that only stopped 10 years beforehand. After the customary lager and chat with the locals we planned some things that needed to be achieved over the nest few days. Firstly, the city bus tour. This was more so concentrated on the protestant and Catholic chaos that took place and then the proud area where the Titanic was built and launched from. The dry sense of humour and wit that the bus driver had was just the start of bad styled dad humour that would carry on for the whole time we were in Ireland. It was strange to see all of the 60ft + walls that were still up to seperate the two communities. There was one spot where a Protestant walked into a catholic area and shot dead 3 catholics, today there is a memorial garden and kids playing soccer on the street. We also had a squizz at the docks area known for Titanic. The next day we took a bus tour upto the Giants causeway along the coast. This part of the coast was beautiful and we luckily had a good sunny day. Also David persuaded us to go to the Bushmills Distillery, I can still smell the whiskey. The following day we went to Dublin. We had all good intentions of staying one night and hiring a car and heding or the west coast. Unfortunately, Dublin has an area known as the Temple bar District. We became fairly good friends and hence spent the next 4 days in Dublin. Did the usual bus tour, the Guinness brewery and a lot of chilling out in the park. Life was tough. The partying was crazy. Whats the Craic??
