The inspiration behind this entire trip was to attend this concert tonight. Jón Leifs' Edda Part 2, The Lives of the Gods. Finished in 1966, premiered tonight. The choir part is very demanding. So, intermission.
I am quite sure any of you actually reading this I have never heard of the composer. 1899 to 1968 are his dates. Many of you may not even enjoy listening to it. I did not find it all that modern sounding but it is definitely off the beaten path. I find it exhilarating. Large orchestra with seven percussionists. And four or five playing the lur. See pic. The ones they are using for the performance are on loan from the national Museum. So says the woman sitting next to me who has a sister and a cousin in the orchestra on flute and cello respectively. It's a small country!
