So I can't quite believe it but we've now been living in Australia for 2 wonderful months already! It doesn't feel like travelling anymore so haven't got round to jotting down life as it rolls by on our blog.
On arriving in Sydney, jet lagged and after a very rigid 6 hours on a plane on Asia's version of Ryanair we were welcomed in by family friends Colin and Martin which was a gorgeous introduction to Sydney life, managing to squeeze in a few sight seeing trips between house viewings and hours spent job hunting.
A few nights in Sydney was followed by a week up on central coast with family, enjoying home cooking, bbqs, beach time, our first real exercise in months - running round the lake, eating lamingtons, and yet more house hunting and job preparation for Sydney. Finally after 2 weeks we both had jobs and were settled into our flatshare in Drummoyne in Sydney.
The first month was spent trying to savour every penny and still only just managing, but once the first few pay days had arrived things started to get easier and we were able to get out and enjoy sunny Sydney more! Led by Google maps we visited yet more gorgeous beaches (with much colder water than Asia), an amazing birthday circus trip for Bryn with family, art exhibitions and the usual Sydney sights which we now hardly glance at as we go past the Sydney Opera House. Maybe we've been here too long already!!!
Work is going pretty OK for us both. Shame not to be nursing and teaching but we're half way there with after school care and support worker. Bryn might be almost there with teaching though for after the Easter holidays. Nursing is a no go for me though, but the lack of responsibility and stress is flipping amazing!!!
We've just moved into our second flat in Balmain a week or so ago which is great! Moved in with a woman whose daughter has now moved out, which suits us just perfectly. Unlimited access to the gym, pool and sauna was the major selling point! We should be staying here until we leave Sydney now we think, but plans are constantly on the change.
Working in a foreign country seemed odd to start with but now is pretty much the same as england with the exception of the warmth and sunshine.
Love from Sidders, Jo x
