14th July, 2013. Mt Surprise - Tolga 252 kms We have had word some of our friends have not been receiving our blog hence a quick one tonight with the hope I have fixed all the problems.
We left home 24th June and have travelled through Griffith, Lake Cargeligo, Bourke, Cunnamulla, Quilpie, Winton (Dinosaurs), Mt Isa (for a dentist appt. I broke a tooth) the onto Lawn Hill, Burketown, Normanton, Karumba, a day tour of the Undara Lava Tubes and here we are near Atherton and our trip to the tip of Cape York fast approaching.
We left Mt Surprise to an overcast day but warm with in 100kms the terrrain had changed from dry and brown to more green and drizzling rain, we had entered the Atherton Tablelands, we really felt we were in Melbourne and more so when we had a toilet stop and realised how cold it was. We stopped at a little market and bought some fresh veggies the tomatoes are delicious, then onto Millsteam Falls and Little Millstream Falls where we had lunch. We drove into Ravenshoe not much happening on a Sunday in the town but the "I" centre was helpful and had a couple of interesting displays on indigenous of the area and also one on native animals in the area.
Another toilet stop (it must be cold) and we moved onto Atherton, again nothing much happening on Sunday but Bunnings was open and Bill just had to get something that they didn't have!! We moved on about 10kms to a free camp spot and there is in excess of 80 caravans here (I stopped counting at 80 see photo). Bill has had a chat to a couple who have arrived back from the Cape today and they are driving a bus type motor home, and they are saying we will get there ok, but we will still do some more checking. We stored out Doona under the bed about a week ago I think I will have to get it out tonight.
