Starting to write again, most people will know we havent been overly impressed by Oz in general so my blogs would just be moaning!
Yesterday we did the final leg of our journey from Melbourne to Cairns and we have 5000k's on the clock! Had the best day of Australia so far, we left Townsville to drive up to Cairns and decided to take some tourist routes as it was a fairly short drive (well compared to the 700kms we had done the day before!)
Our first stop was a Josephine Falls which was absolutely stunning after we'd taken some great pictures we jumped into the bottom pool to cool off which was well needed as it was 37 degrees! Was so nice swimming in the water surrounded by the forest and I felt safe from the spiders and snakes I'm still paranoid about! I had already decided to stay in the car on one of our little walkabouts earlier in the day as we saw the biggest spider ever it must have been about 15cm (remember thats coming from a diver!) Definitely one of the best things I've seen in Oz as well as our next stop at The Boulders which as the name suggests is a creek with massive boulders in it, really cool to see! These are the things we want to see! We did a drive along Mission Beach which was also quite nice, obviously its the time of year for the stingers so we cant make use of the ocean!
The little things like the falls make the trip and are the sorts of things we want to see rather than big cities, we could have spent all day there!
We arrived in Cairns late and we didnt need to stress as we had already booked a hostel so we knew where we were sleeping for the night for the first time since we've got here! After dumping our stuff we went down to the lagoon and had a swim which was really nice. Cairns seems to be a nice city in general, very touristy but well done. The lagoon is lovely and massive with plenty of space to sunbathe and read my book! We also booked 3 dives for Thursday, we cant leave without diving the GBR!
Today we've had a nice relaxing day, sunbathing eventhough it is too hot and swimming. We leave Cairns just for a couple of days tomorrow to go to Cape Tribulation.
