Wake up at noon after a 10 hour sleep : pretty good for a first night in Japan! We can say that the plan to fight jetlag is a big success!
Our reward for such a success was to have brunch under the cherry trees in Tsukuba, and thus experience a strongly anchored japanese tradition : Hanami. This was a great moment!
We then moved to Tokyo with N. and A., our hosts in Tsukuba. We took the Tsukuba Express, TX as they call it here. It is a 45 min ride with a "rapid TX" which only stop at 4 or 5 stations before Akihabara (Tokyo).
We took the JR Yamanote Line and tried to reach Ebisu station and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, but we arrived there right before it closes. We decided to come back later, at the end of our stay, since the exhibition looks obviously great.
We then moved to Roppongi Hills. We could admire the nice spider sculpture of Louise Bourgeois at the entrance of the Mori Tower. We went to the 52th floor of the tower where sits the famous Mori Art Museum. The exhibition "Can there be Art" was definitely worthwhile.
We ended our stay at the Mori Tower at the City View, which gave us an awesome view of Tokyo by night.
We decided to go and grab food in Shibuya. We walked on the famous crossing of this Time-Square-like neighborhood, and found a nice restaurant serving specialties from Hokkaido. We ate raw fish, raw meat, fried potatoes, grilled fish and cheese. The quality of the food was excellent, though a bit expensive. Hence we decided to fill our bellies with a bowl of Ramen before going to the venue. The main purpose of this first tokyoite trip was indeed a concert of Wax Tailor and DJ Krush at Eleven Club, starting at 10pm and supposingly finishing at 5am the next day... It was crucial not to be hungry ;-)
The venue happened to be very good. Fortunately we did not forget our earplugs which appeared to be quite necessary to appreciate the moment.
We left the club at 5am, grabbed some food in a convenient store (such an appropriate name in this kind of occasions...) and took the first TX back to Tsukuba.
For the record, the sun rises at 5:30 am in Tokyo these days...
