Ol n' Ben around the world
You've all heard about it; we've tested it!
The reputation of japanese toilets is true in the end: very modern, efficient and pleasant to use.
You can find many different kinds of toilets everywhere in Japan, from the basic to the more complex ones. But all of them have one incredibly convenient feature: warm seat! So obvious when you've tested it that you wonder why this does not exist worldwide...
Considering the other options you have, the basic one is "washlet": a nice spray which rinses you (everywhere, whether you are a man or a woman) and is so much more pleasant than toilet paper!
In more complex models, you can chose the temperature of the spray and its pressure.
Last funny detail: on some model, you can find a button which makes a "flush noise", and thus enables you to do anything you have to do without being heard from the outside ;-)
It should be noted that in most of restrooms, you will find a pair of special slippers at the entrance. You will have to let your "home slippers" when entering the toilet, and put the special ones on. Indeed restrooms are considered as "dirty places" inside a japanese house, as the outside of the house is. So you must remove your shoes and put slippers when you enter a japanese house, but you also have to put special slippers when you enter toilets! And those slippers have to remain in the toilets and should not be worn outside of it, as we saw it from a spanish girl at the ryokan on Miyajima island...

Going to toilet ...and which one is the best button of all? Which should be avoided? What is the japanese character for the comfort, totally clean, feel so good automatic flush program?
O n' B The best button depends on what you prefer: high pressure, low pressure, hot, colder...The more useful one is the red one, which stops everything, in case you dislike it !But as I said, the best thing is the warm seat, available on any kind of washlet. And you do not have to read japanese to understand the pictures ;-)
