Hello all,
It has been a while since the last blog as it has been a while since the last email oppertunity.
After Knysna we travelled west along the garden route stopping off at Hermanus to watch the southern right whales breaching over a champagne breakfast.
From here we went straight to Capetown and spent some awesome quality time with Bernie's cousin and his family and enjoyed all the creature comforts of being in a home again and also some outstanding home cooked food.
We then hired a car and drove down to Simonstown and Cape Point where we stayed with new friends. I ate and cooked my very first poitjie (poikee - a massive couldron cooked on an open fire) thanks to the hospitality and expert guidance of our hosts. Whilst in the hood we took timeout to mingle with the penguins, take a boat trip to seal island and Bernie caught up with some more of her close ancestors - the baboons.
Our last couple of nights in capetown were spent climbing Table Mountain which frightened the pants off me being scared of hieghts and also some pretty hard-core partying thanks to Long Street Backpackers.
We are now no longer in Spouth Africa - leaving without getting shot, mugged, robbed or mudered and we have begun our overland trip and have spent the last 5 days camping under the stars, cooking on open fires and living like bush-people in the deserts and sandunes of Namibia which is one very baron place. I took the oppertunity to demonstrate my calibre and spewed at the top of the world famous "Dune 45" whilst watching sunset (you'll understand why later in the blog)
Along the way we vissitted the Orange river, Fish river Canyon and also the sand dunes. Last night was the first night in a proper bed as we stayed in Swakopmund.
The other people in our overland group are heaps of fun and a real mixed group which is very fortunate as we will be travelling with most of them up to Nairobi.
On the first week the whole bus got a tummy bug and it was a real poo-n-spew fest which is not as fun as it sounds being stuck with no toilets, toiliet paper or pharmacies - everyone seems to be recoving now though.
My screen has just flashed 3 minutes remaing so I will sign off and upload photos next time.
Love to you all
Stuart and Bernie
