Since we last spoke we have covered a lot of ground...
The last night in Egypt was unbelievable - primarily because we went to a wedding... We didn't know this til the end of the night, as we were being treated by our new friend Mohamed, who took us to his house (with 2 cows, a calf and a donkey) to meet his family and his mum & wife cooked dinner for us. From here we visited his sister's house before being taken to a massive outdoor marquee which was packed with hundreds of men (no women except Bernie) all drinking, smoking and dancing to the live musicians and arrabic sort of rapping - truelly an unforgetable evening - we even got up on stage to dance.
After the relative cheapness of Egypt we ventured wallet first into Greece.
After eating mousaka and kebabs and seeing the acropolis we took a short flight to Italy. Starting in Rome we were relieved of a lot of Euros while taking in the typical Rome sites and going to see the pope at his house to look at his ceiling.
We then took our wallet to Florence, Cinque Terra, Naples.... Cinque Terra being by far the nicest Italian venue where 5 quaint villages are built into the mountains that plummit straight into the dark blue aegean sea.
From Bari, we caught the overnight ferry into Montenegro which was empty so we got a free upgrade.
Montenegro is such a beautiful place and the people (the minty-noygroids as we like to refer to them) are very very kind despite the seemingly inherent aggressive stare that everyone dons. On several occasions a complete stanger would buy us a round of drinks in a bar - just cos we were not local (and we smiled). Budva and Sveti Stefan are colorful beach resorrts and understanderbly labelled "impossibly beautiful" by the lonely planet.
The minty-noygroids start to drink alcohol with breakfast and keep drinking all through the day. I'm not really sure what happens after 21:30 as we have never been sober enough to remember.
A short bus ride away is the very unusual town of Kotor, again with a walled old-town and dramtic mountain to sea scenery. This is where we sampled the local delicacy.... black squid-ink rissotto....yummo to the maximoso
After a day in Kotor, we hopped on a bus to Dubrovnic, Croatia. We haven;t seen much of the scenery as we have been hibernating - the weather has been a bit pants. We endevour to go out today / tomorrow worst case scenario andscope out the town. We did have a quick flutter in the old town (known as Grad) to celebrate our 5 months on the road with a few (too many) beers in an Irish pub.
That's all for now - will write soon, next stop Austria!
Ciao folks!
