R.V. central, we manage to find a beautiful scenic location, on the top of a hill, looking over a small river, covered in lush green grass: it wasn't actually a campsite. We see a couple electrical cords...so we move them and decide to camp there anyways. Tina asks me if we should put the fly on the tent...I say 'nah' it's not going to rain. Middle of the night: it starts to rain. Tina gets out and puts the fly over the tent. A few minutes later: horns and honking, and bright lights and the "chucka chucka chucka chucka" of a train going by!
At first we feared for our lives, thinking that in our state of fatigue we set up the tent directly on the train tracks! But then we realized, with much relief, that we hadn't and that we would live through the night. Although Tina had mentioned earlier on that Chrystal Hotsprings was where Jason had massacred everyone in the Friday the Thirteenth movies. We wake up the next day with people walking their dogs and looking at the sole tent in the campground on the non-campsite a little suspiciously.... so we pack it all up and get the hell out of there...the way we came in: sketchy. Not having registered, not having payed.
That morning we drive to the great Salt Lake and make some delicious hot chocolate with Bailey's...then proceed to drive through a crazy hail/rain/thunder/fog storm in Salt Lake City. Didn't see much of the city, but the storm was kind of exciting.
We drove through a bunch of cool places...one of which was Mohab, Utah. Tina and I were making good time so we decided to take a hike at "Negro Bill Canyon," which was chill and just beautiful. And at the end of the trail there was a natural rock bridge and a natural jacuzzi (cold though) so we took the beers we had been carrying, put them in the jacuzzi, and just sat and enjoyed our beers (called "Black Dog"...we drank them with the black dog-Myra).
We kept getting lost on the way back...once again, engulfed in conversation we'd always end up off the path somewhere....in jungle-like grass. At one point Myra ran after a lizard and hit it with her paw...the lizard was twitching and Tina told me to "finish it off" so I had to take a big rock and put the little guy out of his misery: this was kind of traumatic and for a while I looked at Myra as "Lizard Killer" but I soon got over it and figured there would be many more traumatic experiences - than having to kill a lizard - along the journey through Central America.
