Noy's 4th Walkabout
More language amusement! "Noy" or more precisely "Noi" or "Noui" means "small" or "little" (No comment). Our waitress last night had a nickname of "Noui" and was sure Richard must have been her father! It gets worse; now "Yai" means "big" and the agent for Tour East (who are managing our affairs down to Australia) is Ms.Yai! Seriously! So Mr. Little asked to see Ms. Big and reception could not stop laughing!
On Tuesday we just chilled in the resort, which is massive. There are FIVE hotels based around the lagoon which is filled and drained only when the tide is high (or VERY high, as it became on 26th December 2004!). A free ferry service shuttles us about elegantly and without haste. Canal Village is a shopping centre inside the complex where we can get nearly anything, including an elephant for Richard! We have a card which gives us discount all round the resort, even in the Banyan Tree which is Phuket's top hotel. We booked our trip to Phi Phi (pronounced Pee-Pee) and that's what we did today, Wednesday. Maya Beach is where the film "The Beach" was filmed; we swam and snorkelled there. We then went round the island to the Holiday Inn Resort for lunch before moving on to a private island, Manboo, where we had a couple of hours to kill swimming and sunbathing. This life is SO hard and demanding! We got back to find that the sun had damaged us both, hopefully not too much.
