Day 39, 12 August 2012, Drive from Cairo,under the Suez Canal, around the very bottom of the Sinai Peninsula, to Dahab, on the coast of the Red Sea - 5 am wake up and last minute pack before we enjoyed a hot breakfast at the Pyramids Park Resort Cairo. The swimming pool glimmered in the early morning light as we checked out. Just so tempting... We have been demoted from massive tour bus to a mid-size mini-van for the trip to the Sinai and eventually got away by 7 am - 8 hour drive promised - but that is Egyptian time - so depending on checkpoints and holdups it could be 10 hours or so. We stopped at a cafe prior to going under the Suez Canal. The cafe had a super map and scale model of this engineering marvel which provides the majority of Egypt's income. When we arrive in Dahab (bottom right hand side of the Sinai), diving will, no doubt, be superb - if for no other reason than it's mostly shore dives (yay! no boats). The highlight of the trip at this point however is watching a video on the bus. The Mummy!
