Patagonian landscapes are a good reason to get a car and make a longer roadtrip here. I was traveling with a Gap Adventure tour (the Lake district highlight) and we had for most of the time our own wan. It was nice to be able to stop where ever to photograph…but the sceneries are just so beautiful it´s hard to keep on moving…If I ever come back, I´ll go snowboarding in Bariloche too, now I spent one day in Chapelco - with lots of snow!! Both sites are superb for skiers, recommend!
On the Chilean side, the town Pucon is for adventure people. This time of the year it was all empty, however, we had a blast rafting, hiking and seeing waterfalls here -despite the rain :) Also the emptiness wasn´t bad at all, actually it was nice this way, and traveling off season is also considered as more responsible, more fare tourism, because in many countries it helps the locals to get some income during tougher times with no tourists.
Anyway Patagonia is such a big area, and you can do different things depending on the time of the year. Wrote a whole article to KILROY´s site about the top things to do here (for active traveller), so hope it´s being published soon. Patagonia is worth spending much more than couple weeks, it´s so beautiful. Next time I´ll bring a tent and do more hiking :)
