After an exhausting day tubing down the river sipping Laos beer (yes I know you all feel sorry for us!), we took a bus from Vang Vieng to Vientiane.
Vientiane is the capital city of Laos, we thought we'd spend a couple of days here to have a quick look around and organise our route out to Cambodia.
When we arrived the city was like a ghost town. Many of the shops were closed due to New Year and so we wandered around aimlessly for a while trying to figure out our plans. It seemed strange to us that such a place should still be the capital when Luang Prabang seemed far superior. The main street in the city didn't even have a proper road and those roads that were in place were almost like dirt roads, very bumpy and uneven.
As there wasn't much to do in the city, we booked a flight to Cambodia for the following day. I know a flight, seems a bit extravagent but after researching ways of getting to Cambodia this seemed by far the best way. Every other way took an extra 3 days or so and seemed really over-complicated and we heard Cambodian borders weren't the easiest to get through.
We spent our last night in Laos drinking more Laos beer (640ml for about 50p!). We even tried the draught and dark versions, well could be our last chance to sample such fine ale so would be rude not to.
We enjoyed our brief time in Laos, especially Luang Prabang which really is an amazing place.
Next stop Cambodia, wish us luck at the border!
