As we approached Buenos Aires we were excited. We heard Argentina was more European than the rest of South America, so we expected good food and more importantly, fast food! We´ve never looked forward to MacDonalds before in our lives until we got to Buenos Aires, but of course felt sick after we ate it.
Buenos Aires is just like most cities in the world, which was re-assuring as we´d missed that for the last few weeks. There´s not too many sights, so we checked out a few squares and the English Tower, which is supposed to be based on Big Ben but looks more like an Italian Campanile.
On Sunday we headed to Recoleta, which is known for it´s Sunday market and hippies in the surrounding parks, and also for it´s cemetary. Eva Peron is buried here, along with many other famous Argentines, and it really is a tourist attraction. It is the most elaborate cemetary we have seen, as well-off families have built beautiful mausoleums to house their dead, and looking through into these shrines we could see coffins. It was a bit creepy, and not the sort of place you want to be after dark.
The next day we headed off to the airport for a flight to Sao Paulo, where we took a six hour bus to Rio de Janeiro.
