The papers are full of the M23 surrender in Kisoro. It appears they are asking for a ceasefire now to put an end to their rebellion which has been going on for nearly two years. Looks like this area where we have spent quite some time, may start to get back on the road to peace and safe existence for both countries.
We stopped at the equator today , in a different place to last time. Did a bit of shopping in the little town and had lunch there. Half way through lunch the heavens just opened. I thought the storms in Queensland were amazing, but the force of the rain coming down sis unbelievable. Swift little torrents started in the carpark and when the rain abated we all got a little wet getting back to the truck, with water up to our ankles almost.
More driving, driving with much card playing going on. Pretty mundane driving until we got to the roadworks again and then we were tossed around like a salad.
Got to our destination in Jinja, a resort called Adrift which is high on a cliff overlooking the Nile river. Jinja is the source of the Nile and here I am sitting in the bar, waiting for some instruction on activities tomorrow. We are here for two nights and this is the adventure spot in Uganda apparently. I will let you know tomorrow if that is true.
So the manager arrived eventually to fill us in on activities and we had a choice of
Bungee jump
White water rafting - 1/2 day and full day
Jet boat - done during a break in we rafting for half hour
Banana boat ride
Horse riding
Mmmmmm, well bungee I will only ever do in NZ, ww rafting - 2 things. I don't want to get thrown out of boat because water and I are not the best of friends and it would concern me if my knee got bent the wrong way, if I did get thrown out. Good reasons not to get out of my comfort zone methinks! Well, that's what I told myself anyway.
Jet boat, already done that before, banana boat I guarantee there are massive spiders waiting to carry you away and I think a little boring, horse riding, well horses don't seem to like me much so I wouldn't find that much fun trying to hang on and getting a sore backside. Been there, done that before, (Do you remember Kylie?) didn't like it. Bloody horse tried to scrape me off its back on every gate and fence it could find, and then galloped off at speed only to come to a screeching halt in front of a gorse bush, thrusting me forward and almost succeeded in dumping me into it! I don't think do, never again!
Ah, what the hell, go ww rafting BUT go in the safety/guide boat - still do the same rapids but you don't do any paddling which means the professional rafting guide rows and the boats can take his line if they want to, which is a little more conservative. Eg if it is a grade 5 then he will take a grade 4 approach or if available on the same rapid, a grade 3 approach. Little chance of getting thrown out because this guy is a pro and not a bunch of your inexperienced mates paddling like 40 thousand demons are after them! A half day of this could see me having some thrills without getting too much out of my comfort zone! Sounds like fun! We do grade 4 and 5 rapids.

Cheryl Hi Mama, Sounds like the roads need a serious fixing over there. I am glad to hear that there is a cease to the rebellion. Can't wait for your next installment, you are having the time of your life and hopefully enjoying every minute of it (well nearly)! Thanks Cheryl
Yvonne Blank Well, another day and you will be on your way home - what an amazing month you have had and I have really enjoyed reading all your blogs. Isent you an email today but it came back undelivered so not sure what happened. I will be in touch with you later in the week when you have settled back into the boring routine of work!!! Am off to Christchurch on Saturday evening, Yvonne
Rona McNeill Hi Sandra, Well, your journey of a life time is almost at an end. Spoke to Yvonne tonight and she said you would arrive home tomorrow. Where has the time gone? We have thoroughly enjoyed your diary and have felt as though we were there with you. Most unexpected experiences of bombing sounds, etc. That tree that tried to get really close sounded fascinating. The children sounded great. I found out that the girl I suggested you might call on, lives in Kamwokya, 5 Kms north of Kampala. Of course I wasn't serious about you visiting her! Thank you for involving us in your trip. Talk to you soon. Love, R and R
