We used these couple of days in the Barossa, to really chill and relax, although we did drive about 45 minutes north to Kapunda on the day we arrived.   This is an old mining town, established in 1839.   Apparently the huge copper mine that began here in 1842 kept the entire colony afloat until 1878, due to the pureness of the copper. On the outskirts of town is a 7 metre bronze statue of "Map the Miner" or “Map Kernow” – Son of Cornwall. ...

On Saturday we walked into town via the river bank. The town has beautiful reserves and parks with meandering footpaths all along the river.   The house boats and paddle steamers moored at the edge.    Just beautiful!   Today there was obviously a big regional rowing regatta on, judging by the names on pergolas and boats.   Hundreds of boats, from coxless doubles to coxed eights.   And the guy from the Mannum club, who set the whole thing up, was hav...

Time to leave the lovely coastal town of Robe, with its beautiful historic houses and buildings, all immaculately preserved and maintained. Tuesday was cold and miserable so we just chilled out mostly and did a self-guided drive around the town's historic places. The buildings are immaculately maintained and appear to be privately owned.   People still live in these late 19th century stone houses in the main street.Most buildings are circa 1840’s – 1860’s.   The hotels and jail being the earliest it appears, together with the churches a year or so after.   Nothing change...

Easter Monday 28/03/2016To say my hands are cold whilst I am typing this, is an understatement!
