The bus from Puno was about 7 hours and we got to Cuzco pretty late. We met up with 4 guys from Emanuel School, South London who were on the same coach as us which was pretty strange especiallly as Will knew one of them. We booked onto a four day tour to Machu Pichu, though will wanted to take the train as he is lazy. So we wasted three days in Cuzco waiting for our tour to start, it was quite fun as we went out with the guys from Emanuel and met lots of people. Also free drinks in clubs. Cuzco is meant to be the gringo capital of South America so there're lots of English speakers.
The first day of the four day tour consisted of a 5 hour bike ride to a small village. The bike ride a wasnt too bad as it was mostly downhill and it was slightly less scary than the one in La Paz. Me and Will both finished a while before everyone else. It was a good day as we had a good group. Two New Zealanders, 4 swedish people and 2 Israelis. This guy from New Zealand called Dave was really cool and we spent most of our time talking to him.
The second day was a very long trek and they didnt supply water. We forgot to buy water and consequently Will got really bad dehydration. So that was a tiring day. The third was much the same, though a slightly shorter trek and we arrived at around 4 at the town at the bottom of Machu Pichu (called aguas calientes). There were also hot springs to lie in at the end of the day.
The fourth day we got up at around 4am to get to Machu Pichu early before all the crowds arrived. It was a 2 hour walk up about a million stairs but the view from the top was worth it. We managed to get some really good phootos before the mist came down at around nine. It was also pouring with rain so we didnt get the best conditions. It was still really good, for Peter probably the best thing he has done in south america.
We got back to Cuzco to find that our hostel had chucked us out, so had to book into another, and got a bus to Arequipa, on our way to Santiago to catch our flight.
