We got a bus from Rio to Asuncion, mainly because it seemed close to La Paz, which was our intended destination, and flights straight there seemed too expensive and complicated. Asuncion is a complete dump, as no-one ever goes there our book was out of date as it never gets updated, and we stayed only 1 night, having planned to stay longer. Our taxi driver tried to collect a commision for dropping us at our hotel, which was filled with Amish people, the shower was literally a drip of ice cold water (we really should have filmed and posted it), and the main square was easily the worst of any so far, and it's a capital city! After finding out that the bus to Bolivia can take up to 7 days because of the poor quality of the road, we decided to fly to La Paz, which cost something like 100 pounds each, but gained us at least a couple of days.
