Update from Stone Town, Zanzibar
Hi everyone
Since our update earlier in the week from Zanzibar we have had a great couple of days relaxing on the white sandy beaches on the Northern tip of the island. We have spent most of our time doing nothing but managed to find time yesterday to do two dives on the local reefs. The dives didn't live up to our expectations and were a little disappointing but we did see a couple of rarer fish which made the dives worthwhile. The highlight was a seahorse which neither of us had seen before.
We've had to spend a day in Stone Town today as the only bus we could get back to the port was early this morning and the ferry only leaves at 4pm. We went for a walk around Stone Town and got pretty lost in the myriad of narrow winding streets while assuring local touts that we did not need their help for anything... They can be painful!
We had lunch at a restaurant called Mercury's, named so in honour of Freddy Mercury as he was born in Zanzibar.
We have changed our original planned route quite a bit so far. We didn't spend as much time in Malawi as we originally wanted to and will be staying there for longer on the way back home. We've decided to push through to the Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater sooner than planned and then see what forces us home first, money or time....
We're heading back to Dar es Salaam tonight and then off to Arusha and the Serengeti tomorrow morning.
Please keep us updated on what's happening as its always nice to hear from you and knowing how you all are.
Cheers
Rhett & Johan
