So this last week has been brilliant. Finding a good honest friend is one thing, but learning that you can be with that friend 24/7 and love every minute of it shows a lot about your friendship. I have loved having Abby in Thailand with me for the last week. We have had such a great time. It has been so lovely to travel with someone again and this week has certainly felt more like a holiday than 'backpacking'.
After koh Tao we headed to koh samui and managed to bag ourselves a 5* hotel for £20 each. The hotel was beautiful, it had the comfiest bed, a tv with so many films and music albums. It had a bath on out balcony, an infinity pool and a beautiful breakfast spread ( everyone who knows me know how much I love breakfast so I was very happy!). Abby and I enjoyed 4 lovely nights at this hotel. We visited a local town called chaweng which was very touristy and we didn't find the residents very friendly here. We found that when we walked into shops they made gestures to each other about raising the prices. But we did enjoy a lovely meal and cocktail here! We also visited a fishermans village called Bo Phut. This was a quaint place with lovely shops and restaurant. We had a beautiful meal here whilst watching a pretty epic storm! The rain came down so hard and fast that it flooded the streets, the streets seemed more like streams than roads!
Our last evening in the hotel was spent in the infinity pool. During the week we had made friends with 3 Aussie couples who were out parents age. They took us on as if we were their own children, which was so lovely and especially useful when Abby had an allergic reaction to her suncream and her eyes swelled up as the lovely couples sorted her out with anti histamine. Strangers can be so friendly! During our last evening we drank beer in the pool with the husbands and spoke about the good relationships we have with our own families. We also watched an incredible storm, there was thunder and lightening. Some of you maybe reading this and thinking 'lightening....you should not have been in the water' but don't worry every time I saw lightening I counted until the thunder and it never seemed to get any closer than 3 miles to us. If it had got to two miles I would have been out of the pool so fast!
This morning Abby left to head back to England. It was really sad, I hate goodbyes and am still not very good at them. To distract my mind I went to the gym at 6am. The thought of being alone again is daunting but I know it's something I need to do, just to prove to myself that I can do it again. I start my yoga and detox retreat tomorrow which will interesting and hard as I am not allowed coffee, sugar, alcohol and carbs...and I love all of them!
