Whilst still in Bangkok we took a day trip to the Bridge over the river Kwai. It was ever so moving, We went to a WWII cemetery and a museum about the building on the bridge and the number of POW's that died there. From there we went to see some waterfalls and went for a little explore around the area. Then we took the 'death train', a very old train that at first I thought was derelict but once it started to move I realised that that was the train we were taking. Along the river we travelled and saw some great views.

We left Bangkok on 7/02 to head up north. Our first bus was to Tak taking 7 and half hours. Wasn't as bad as it sounds, but from there to get to where we wanted to stay that night there were no buses. So we jumped into the back of a pick-up truck with some other travellers to go another 2 hrs to Mae Sot. On the way there were lots of police checks because we were so near the Thai/Burma border, I now know how it feels to be an immigrant, was very bizarre. Arrivng in Mae Sot we had nowhere to stay, and no joke it was a ghost town. So wondering around to try and find somewhere to stay then somewhere to eat, where there were no signs in English and eveywhere looked closed, I was starting to feel slightly uneasy. But we did and all worked out. The next day we hopped into the back of another truck to take us to our destination Umphang. Thinking it wasn't that far we spent 5hours on a bench with lots of locals and chickens and peopole not being too well. Was ratther unpleasant, started to think that this better be worth it. Again roll up to another very iscolated town with no-one speaking English, sharing a room with a few cockroaches, no shower and a toilet that doesn't flush. If i can cope with this I can cope with anything. The only reason we headed there was to see the Tee Lor Su Waterfalls, all thanks to my rough guide. The following day we learnt that it was indeed well worth the trek out. We saw the most fabulous waterfalls, managed to swim behind one, something I have always wanted to do. There was hardly a sole there and we sunbathed on the rocks all afternoon in our own little paradise. As we left the strangest thing happened, some Thai guys kept on wanting pictures with me. We then put it down to the idea that they may have never seen someone with blonde hair and blue eyes as we believe they never leave their small town. Very strange indeed!
