Nikki and Matt's World Tour
We're certainly settling into this travelling lark quite easily.
The overnight train from Krakow to Budapest was great. It left at 10.30pm and rolled into our new city at 9.30am the following morning. We'd paid for our own sleeper carriage so had bunkbeds, a wardrobe area, a wash basin and even chocolate croissants for breakfast all to ourselves. I felt like I'd stepped into a 1950s movie like North by Northwest!
Feeling very refreshed, we were able to hop onto a bus once we'd rolled into town and find our hostel.
The city is actually split into two halves, Buda with its castle district on the one side of the Danube, with Pest and the city's nightlife on the other. We're on the Buda side but it's only a ten minute stroll across the river to get into town, which is no hardship!
On our first day we decided to relax from the train journey with a trip to the spas. The city is famous for its thermal natural springs and there are quite a few Turkish baths dotted around the town. We headed to one of the largest in the city park. It was great, so relaxing. We just kept hopping from pool, to steam room, to sauna, to outdoor pool with its 38C temperature. Very relaxing and we almost fell asleep at one point!
The rest of the week we've been strolling around the town, going to lots of dinky tea rooms and coffee houses, and general sightseeing.
We might venture out of the city and do a day trip today if the weather holds out (it has been quite wet!).
Tomorrow we're also going on a caving trip. It's being organised by the hostel and lets just say it is extreme sports! Basically you don some sort of protective suit and go climbing down tiny holes in caves far underground. Hmm. I'm actually quite scared but will give it a whirl!
Hope you are all ok anyway.
Thanks for all the messages so far too!
Love Nikki
