We landed in Queenstown on the Saturday and our friend Zoe picked us up from the airport. Queenstown was so beautiful with the mountains and all the trees. We had a bbq that evening at Zoe's house and then headed into town. We went to a few bars and joined Fao, then headed to a Drum & Bass club; on the way to the club an African American said that we were like Charlie's Angels. When we got to the club the music was great and we were happy to dance away and have a good workout. On the Sunday we went to Arrowtown which is an old gold mining town. We walked around the shop and then had a tradional yummy Kiwi pie and sat by the lake. We then went back to Queenstown and went on a jet boat ride along lake Wakatipu. It was so much fun especially when they spun the boat round and we got water splashed on us, it was really windy too.
The next day Suhanya went to the Nevis bungy jump which is 134m high, the highest is New Zealand. People jump in weight order with the heaviest going first, luckily I had my hiking boots on and therefore weighed a bit more so I was only second to last. I was nervous especially because I had to wait around for the others in the group to go first. They were playing dance music which was cool. When it was time to jump they attached the bungy and then I penguin walked to the ledge. They counted down from 5 and then I dived down. I was amazed how easy it was to jump but the adrenalin rush was amazing. I felt like I was flying and at one point felt weightless. I couldn't pull the strap on my leg so came back up upside down. In the afternoon we went to Wanaka with Zoe and Fao, the weather was perfect and we had a nice relaxing afternoon by the lake. The water was freezing so we only managed to splash around in the water and play frisbee.
The next day we went up the skyline and had a few of Queenstown which was really nice. We then went luging which was awesome. As we hadn't been before we had to go on the slower track. It was so much fun driving down the slopes. On our second go we went on the faster course which was way better as it was steeper.
The next day we went to Milford sound, on the way we went to Te Anau and went to a bird wildlife park which had native birds like Kia's. When we got to Milford Sound we went on a boat cruise. It was really beautiful and the weather was sunny and nice. We saw seals lying on some rocks too which was cool but we missed the dolphins. On the way back to the port we went close to a waterfall and got wet from the spray. There was a rainbow in the spray too.
A couple of days later we got the bus to Fox Glacier. When we arrived it was raining so we decided to walk to lake Mathesan . We didn't think it would be far but later realised it was a 6km walk to the lake. On the way we saw loads of cows and they kept on staring at us. When we finally reached the lake it was still raining and really cloudy so we couldn't even see the reflecton of Mount Cook in the Lake. The next day we went on our glacier hike which was really exciting. We treked through a jungle and drank water from a waterfall which was really refreshing. When we reached the glacier we put crampons onto our boots and started to hike onto the glacia. Our tour leaders carved us stairs with the axes which was really cool. We saw loads of crevases. After lunch we went in an ice cave which was the highlight of the glacier hike. Water was dripping down onto us and it was really slippy. To get out we had to climb down some stairs then walk through a really narrow crevase. We continued walking further up the glacier, we then reached a dead end as there were too many deep crevases and therefore dangerous for us to go further. We then headed back down through the jungle and then back to our hostel.
The next day we headed to Punakeiki which is famous for the pancake rocks. Again when we arrived it was raining but we went to see the pancake rocks and blowhole anyway asthere wasn't anything else for us to do. Sadly there wasn't much spray coming from the blowhole. The pancake rocks were really interesting though (check out the pictures). In the evening we went to see some glow worms in a cave with a guy called Chris from our hostel. The first time we went it wasn't dark enough so we couldn't see any glow worms but then the second time it definitely was dark and we saw loads of glow worms which looked really cool. It was pretty scary though as we couldn't see where we were going. We took a scenic route out of the caves and had to climb down in between trees and the ground was really muddy. We saw the pnacake rocks again at sunset and without the rain, it was much nicer. The next day we went on the Truman path which ended at a beach with a guy from our hostel called Peer. The stones were really small but great for exfoliating our feet.
The next day in the afternoon we got the bus to Nelson. On the Tuesday we got picked up and heading towards the Skydive place. We got kitted up and then met our instructors and camermen. Suhanya's was called Adam and Nicole's was called Mark. We then climbed into the plane and flew up into the sky. The scenery over Able tasman was beautiful and it was the perfect day for the skydive. We saw mountains, beaches and the town. At 13,000ft the door opened. Suhanya went first: Adam sat at the edge of the plane and I was attached to him just hanging in the air. The wind was gushing past me. We did a few poses for the camera and then Adam let go and we tumbled down into the sky. The rush was amazing, Adam tapped me on the shoulder and then we went into the skydive pose. My camerman Kev came in front of us and we started doing different poses like superman. I did the classic party dave dance too! When I tried to open my mouth the air was pulling it apart. It was really fun, we span around and then at 5000 ft Adam opened the parachute. It was really peaceful once the paracute was up and we were having a casual chat about the scenery and what was around. Adam let me navigate the parachute which was cool. I practiced our landing to which was alright. Then when we reached the floor I lifted up my legs and we had a smooth landing. I wish I could have gone again but sadly couldn't. Nicole went next: That evening we went to the cinema to see Revolutionary road. The next day we went to Abel Tasman and went on a tour, we had 6 people in our group. We went in a twin kayak from Mahahau and watering cove, on the way we saw seals on the rocks at Adele Island. The sea was really calm so kayaking was alright and too much of a work out for our arms. We had a yummy lunch of a bun, muffin and fruit. From the Kayaks Suhanya's combats were wet so our tour leader Tom lent her some black thermals, which looked quite fashionable, especially with the orange waterproof. After lunch we went on a walk on our own along the high tide coastal track to Torrent bay which was a 2hr walk. We saw a few beaches on the way which were really nice. Then we got a water taxi back to Marahau. We stayed in a hostel called Tasman bay and we got chocolate pudding every night and 8pm which was definitely a hit for us!
We arrived in Kaikoura on the Thursday. The next day we went whale watching. There was a sea sickness notice so we decided to take some herbal tablets to help us. We had a guide on the boat giving us a commentry which was really interesting and we saw some videos on whales. We saw 5 whales which was really good as normally people only see 2. It was really cool when we saw them dive down. The whales we saw were sperm whales and they were 17m long, as long as the boat we were on. We saw seals on the way back to, unfortunaltely we missed the dolphins again! We don't seem to be having much luck with seeing dolphins in New zealand. We then got a bus to Picton and then the ferry to Wellington the following afternoon. We went through the Malborough sounds which were beautiful, the weather was amazing too with clear blue skies.- comments
