We are actually in Auckland New Zealand and i finally gave up and agreed with Nic to update our blog i didnt know i would be starting from the West Coast.......
Oh well here goes................................bored bored bored already.
No seriously here goes.
We left rainy Perth on the 11th of July and began our trip with a massive hangover and a pick up time of 5am. We said goodbye to the gang at 261 who woke just to send us off and im sure so Cathal could have a couple of beers just to get him through the day after a night at Rosie's.
As soon as we got on the bus and was about an hour into our trip we were already out of the city and in the middle of nowhere. Then it hit me, crap where is my phone. Yep i bloody left it behind along with about 10 other things we later discovered.
Anyway we were off with our new family for the next 10 days all the way to Broome and guess what, we had more bloody Irish on the bus.
1) The 1st stop on the 1st day was to see the Pinnacles about 2-3 hours North of Perth. This area is massive and goes all the way to the coast. It is made up of sandstone formations which have been caved away at over thousands of years leaving all kinds of shapes. We have pics on here so im not going to go into to much detail but it was good.
That night we stopped in some random beach town with it still hammering of rain. We had a BBQ and then got drunk whislt getting to know our new family.
2) We went to Kalbarri gorge which was massive. I think it is 200 metres from top to bottom and loads of kms long. I really cant remember which is bad but i do remember it being bloody good, big, cold and impossible to throw a stone from one side to the next at a poor kangaroo looking back at us. Oh and people sometimes liked to commit suicide there.
3) Monkey Mia was a brilliant place and more of a holiday resort area for rich Ozies. The wether had began to get better by now due to us making our way up North and we even ventured knee deep into the sea. This was to see the famous wild dolphins which gather there between 8 am and midday to be fed. These dolphins swim around by your feet sometimes wacking you with their flippers which was good. We wasnt chosen to feed them tho due to the bigger kids pushing us out the way.
4) We drove for another million years and witnessed another million dead and dying kangaroos at the side of the road to reach Shark Bay. The name gives this place away. Basically hundreds probably thousands of sharks come here to have baby sharks and eat things including humans which was nice. We didnt swim but we see some sharks maybe dolphins or maybe nothing, oh but we did go to a shark recovery centre where we see loads of sharks which had been rescued, including a massive tiger shark which eat a fish infront of us.
5) We came to a town called Exmouth where all the sand had completely turned red. We sat at the lighthouse and watched whales swim past when the sun was setting. Very nice. After this we went to our campsite, the girls got dressed up and we hit the town. Well a bar, well the only bar we had seen for the past few days and it even had people inside it. Very random people who looked like they could all be related through 50 years or so of inbreeding. They did love to get down to Michael Jackson tho.
6) After a night of getting very drunk on the bus and driving across the tropics of capricorn we arrived at Coral Bay and to our hostel for the night. We were all very drunk after Nic organised drinking games and spent the past 4 hours talking into a microphone from a cool box full of ice, goon and beer. As the doors to our bus opened a big bin full of our last 2 hours of empty bottles fell onto the pavement and at the feet of some locals who were very happy to see us.....Not a good start but they did give us a free burger. The following day we went to ningaloo reef where we went Kayaking in the sea and dived with turtles and a bloody reef shark.
Oh and we lost our bag....
7) Karijini, Officially the coldest place by night in the whole of Australia and at the time possibly the world. We spent 3 nights here which apart from the cold we had a brilliant time. Prob some of the best times and sites of the trip were here.
during the day we would climb around gorges nearly dying at every step until we got to some hidden areas where there would be crystal clear lakes to swim in. We loved it. Then of a night we would sit on the bus and drink enough until we couldnt feel the cold anymore before camping outside in swag bags.
8)Tom Price. built in the middle of nowhere due for the workers of a goldmine back in 1850 or something. A very random town with local people who also looked like they were all related.
9)Port Headland skate park for lunch with the locals.
10) We arrived at Broome our final destination. A town where you can only be served alcohol if your in a car due to over induldging from the natives who mostly dont own cars. This is a nice small town mainly used for pearl farming. It has loads of bars and people who didnt look related so it was a real rarity. After a couple of days and drunken nights in Broome te new family slowly went their own ways.
I cant mention everyone or i cant be arsed but thank you Perth - Broome family July 2009 we had a qua;ity time.
God knows how many spelling mistakes were in this and sorry for my poor English Nicola being an English teacher in Perth but i dont care.
Off to Darwin for us now.
