The Gahn train. Well where do we start.....To be honest the thought of a 12 hour train journey through a very hot desert wasnt on top of my list of things to do. It is a real famous train and was named after Afghan camels which were used in the lat 19th centry to build a communication link between Darwin and Katherine in the red centre and then a train trackshortly after along the same route.....check me out with my history. So i thought its got to be worth doing and Nic was dead keen on the idea even though i did remind her probably 205 times what the 15 hour train journey in Thailand was like.
Anyway on the train we were, riding through some green believe it or not countryside for about an hour that was anyway and then...bang there it was, desert. Red hot desert. Thats about all i can say about the train. We did see loads of Kangaroos jumping along side of us and the od dead tree but that was about it until we stopped 6 hours in at a town called Katherine. Not a European in site just drunk natives. The aborigional people arnt as bad as everyone makes out. in our experience most of them have been drunk and have an odd shout and scream at themselves and there have been some who shout and scream at you but its far worse in Romford with the local native chavs so we didnt mind we just sat back and took it all in. Oh but Ktherine is crap...Dont ever go there. There is nothing but a disused train station, oh and 1000s of drunk aborigional people.
Back on the train and then 7 hours later we were at Alice springs
