So once Nic was able to step out into some sunlight we did a buggy tour to Genipabu from Natal. We got to see and ride on some pretty awesome sandunes. We also tasted some local delicacies, which were very strange to say the least.
Next destination was a town called Pipa, and probably our best beach location in Brazil. Praia da Golfinos beach was the pick of the bunch....Golfino means Dolphins....and you were supposed to able to swim with or see dolphins from the beach. Obviously we were a little dubious when we were told about it but within half an hour we were able to see the dolphins! 5mins later and they were about 10ms away from us in the sea! Incredible!
We had a couple of days in Joao Pessoa chilling out some more. We went to a really cool street party and got out first taste of carnival atmosphere and also went to an awesome cachaceria. We then went to Olinda which will be mostly remembered for the 100 odd mosquito bites we both got!
We also stopped for a day at Porto de Galinhas, where during low tide, natural pools are created trapping lots of colourful fish....very pretty!
After a very long and varied bus journey we arrived in Maceio. As there weren't many hostels in this town we decided to try out couch surfing as everyone raves about it, and we thought we could save a bit of money. We were extremely lucky with our host Selma, who was absolutely lovely. She recommended and took us to local bars, restaurants, events and beaches. Praia do Gunga (she found the Gujarati translation hilarious) being a beautiful remote beach with hundreds of palm trees!
That was the end of the beaches...and start of Carnaval!!
