IVE GOT ALL MY PLACEMENT INFO AND ACCOMODATION INFO FOR KENYA!!!

Waited over a year for this info. There's quite a lot, but I'll sumarise it.

Placement Info

TUMAINI CHILDREN'S HOME

It only takes in HIV positive children.

Has 11 children with 30 more on the waiting list to be enrolled

Volunteer activities at the home will include:

Teaching the children

Playing games and doing extra curricular activities with the children

Assisting with the running of the home, e.g. cooking and cleaning

Working hours will be from 9:00am to 5:00pm

Tumaini Children's Home is located 12 kms from the main town

Only bad thing there is that its so far away from the town. Thats like 7 and a half miles. Thats a long bleeding way with Kenyan transport, and I'm going to have to take some extra cash to cover the cost

But still an amazing placement

Accomodation

Volunteer House

The accommodation is located in the city just 500 metres away from the central business area. It is within easy access to the banks, shops, supermarkets etc at a 200 metre radius.

The flat has four bedrooms, three toilets and three showers.

There is a lounge for relaxing or watching television. Each room can host up to 4 volunteers and has two bunk beds. There is a large kitchen and laundry area.

There will be a person living in the house who will help to clean, but volunteers will have to help in cleaning the bathroom/toilet and washing their dishes.

There can be up to 16 people living in the accommodation

There is no hot water at the accommodation but you can boil water for a hot wash.

Breakfast and dinner are included in your placement fee. Breakfast is tea, milk, juice, sausage, fruit, eggs. Dinner is Chapatti, ugali, meat, vegetables, githeri, spaghetti, rice.

Sounds pretty good. Hope I won't be the only one there over Christmas though. I'm glad it's located near the town, but the hot water thing will be a b****.

No hot water for 2 months!!!!!! Arghhhh!!!

Can't wait now though. It seems so real.
