Oh my god.
Getting here was hell. We stopped in Stung Treng like my blog said, for 1 and a half hours waiting for the next minibus. So we get on the bus, they take us to a guesthouse nearby...then told us we'd missed the bus after we drove off.
The guy said that the driver had been paid by the resturant to bring us there so we ate there, but we missed our connecting bus. He tried to arrange us another minibus but couldnt. The border shut at 5 and we needed to get there. So me and Martin walk to this guesthouse to kick off and sort it out.
The guy (called Mr. T) there was reasonable and said that is was the other resturant screwing us over because they are going out of business. This was believeable because Mr. T's guesthouse was in Lonely Planet and seemed popular, whereas the other one was empty.
Mr. T calls the guy but gets nowhere and says he can get us a taxi to the border for $25 (good price) and then the other guy turns up and says a taxi would be $50 (because then we'd have to stay in his hostel)
So we go back to the guys place in a bit because Mr. T says we are due a refund. So we go back and he won't refund it, so we leave and say we are going to the tourist police. We arrive at Mr.T's, and so does this guy, with a minibus, which takes us all the way to Dondet. f***ing son-of-a-b****. We'd waited hours. He drove straight off, thank god, because me,Martin and Charlene were already to f***ing kill him.
Got here in the end (into Laos) and didn't get ripped off at the border with 'stamp fee's'. Saw a beautiful waterfall on the way then got a boat from Nakasong to Dondet. It had holes in it...fun.
Dondet is awesome. Lovely little island which only has electrcity from 6:30pm to 10pm. It's beautiful, but us 3 are leaving tommorow to go to Pakse, then a sleeper bus to Vietienne (the capital) the same day.
Having a great time nethertheless. Started interacting with the locals more and more. Played with about 3 or 4 toddlers in the last 2 days and it reminds me of the kids in Kenya. It's great, I love it out here.
