Ahoy hoy,
This will be our last blog from Mexico City as we've decided to head off to Papantla a few days earlier to spend some extra time on the Caribbean beaches of Veracruz.
We've had a hectic few days since the last post, for a start the Mexican Lucha Libre turned into easily the best night here so far. Some spectacular wrestling (Simsy's first live sporting event), followed by some mask shopping (Rog decided against buying the clown mask), and then back to our place's sister hostel for plenty of free tequila and a boat race against some Irish guys. Needless to say, they hammered us. We finished the night off with a drunken stumble back to our hostel at 2am - it took 45 minutes despite the two being about 300 yards apart.
Saturday started with the Rog just about making it down for a tour of the Anthropology Museum that seemed to drag on for several hours, though I think the hangovers may have had something to do with that. We also saw some Fliers from Papantla, descending from the top of a 75m pole, suspended by a rope around their waist. Very nice.
Later on, we befriended a lovely Mexican-American fellow in his mid-forties. Your move, Jonty.
After that, we decided to spend the evening on the tequila - possibly not our cleverest move. After going through a litre between the three of us in the course of a couple of hours, I spent the night vomming while Rog befriended a Mexican barman that speaks very little English - he was invited back to Rog's room for some cards, but I think he passed, Rog doesn't remember any of this.
Sunday started very slowly, with us dragging ourselves across the Zócalo to McDonalds for breakfast at 1pm - our first meal in 22 hours (unless you count bar nuts). After that, very little happened.
Today, we spent some time wandering around the Centro Histórico, where Rog bought his fifth football shirt of the week, and then popped up El Torre Latinoamericano, the highest building in Mexico, for some lovely smoggy views of the city.
Rog's just left us to go to bed, he's off to the airport at 7:30am tomorrow and will be sorely missed. We're off to Papantla in the afternoon, where we won't have free internet access, so don't expect another post for a little while.
Speak again soon,
Nick and Sims
