Lo all,
Quick one this time, crappy connection means we only have a few minutes left on the hour. First thing, photo's not us - with the crappy connection comes the inability to upload our photos, so that's some other random people.
We're in Uyuni in southern Bolivia following a few days in Chile and a tour of the Salar de Uyuni and surrounding stuffs.
We lost a few days in Iquique, Chile due to illness, which meant we unfortunately had to skip the paragliding course and just do the one flight. Instead we took a few days off, relaxed on the beach and generally bummed around. We did meet a very upset French man whose paragliding business had been "s*** on" by one of his former students though. We also ate some sushi that we couldn't afford, but after a couple of days of nothing but bread and cheese, we felt we deserved it.
From Iquique we shimmied on to San Pedro de Atacama, probably the most expensive town we've been to so far. We shared a sandwich for dinner. From there we started a three day jeep tour through the desert and salt flats of southern Bolivia. It included some spectacular scenery (lagoons, volcanoes and the salt flats themselves amongst other things, photos to follow), and plenty of vicuñas, llamas and flamingos (and tourists). All round, it was steptacular, and well worth the money. On the first night, we were kept up for about an hour by a Brit and an American arguing very loudly (and very ignorantly) about everything from politics to war to anything else they could think to shout about. We did get some great quotes for a little list we've been putting together, though.
We finished the tour today in Uyuni where we need to kill a couple of days before our train leaves for the Argentinian border tomorrow night. There's b***** all to do here except eat, drink and sit, so tomorrow should be fun.
Lots of love,
Nick and Vic
